“Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation’s faction leader did the same. Tobias’s transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child. Newly christened “Four,” he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that threaten his own future – and the future of the entire faction system. Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.”
This novel was a great prequel, as I like to call it, but I would highly recommend reading Divergent before you read this one. Otherwise all of the suspense in the first one will most likely disappear and you might be a little confused about some of the events mentioned. Towards the end it talks about a few scenes that happened in the first one and not in this one so it could be a bit confusing. But this book was very captivating. It was nice to be able to see from Four’s point of view and read about his life before Tris. I finished this book with a great deal more admiration for him. He was like Tris’ knight in shining armor but by the end of this book he was so much more. I don’t want to spoil the book for any of you but there were a few parts where I had to put the book down and just take in the information that we were presented with. There weren’t many of them but the ones that were there were “oh wow” moments. I’m really glad that Veronica Roth decided to write this novel. The series wasn’t over with Allegiant! I hope that this book is not the final one written in this series. It’d be interesting to read about how the factions started and about Tris’ parents in more detail. At least I would be excited to read a book about that! Whether you liked Allegiant or not, I hope that you read this book. It’s shorter than the other three and happened a couple years before Divergent took place. I hope you enjoy it!
