“Before America Singer was chosen to compete in the Selection… She was in love with a Six named Aspen Leger… And there was another girl in Prince Maxon’s Life.”
In case anyone was wondering, this novel is not exactly part of the Selection series. Well, it is but not in the sense that it is in a specific order within the series. It is two novellas, The Prince and The Guard, within a novel from the point of views of the prince, Maxon, and the guard, Aspen. The first novella, The Prince, is from Prince Maxon’s point of view and it begins a little before the selection began. We basically get to see the story from his viewpoint with his narration. It helps readers see what kind of person he really is. If he is, in a sense, real or fake. The second half of the novel, The Guard, focuses on Aspen’s point of view after he got to the palace and began his career as a guard. Just like Prince Maxon, we were able to read from Aspen’s point of view. Even though the events in this novel were ones that a reader is familiar with, as long as they read the first two novels, it was still interesting to read about the same events but from two different perspectives. I feel as though it helps us understand those two characters more than we already had. It’s always nice to have numerous point of views for it helps understand the stories better. I really enjoyed the two novellas. If you are a fan of Kiera Cass than I am sure that you will enjoy this book as well.
