From This Day Forward by Lauraine Snelling

from-this-day-forward“Deborah MacCallister, head nurse at the Blessing hospital, has loved Toby Valders since her school days, but she’s had enough of their on-again, off-again relationship. With the help of the young woman of Blessing, Deborah decides that by the end of the summer she will either have won Toby’s heart – or she’ll give up on him forever. Toby truly cares for Deborah, but he’s never felt like he could commit to marriage or a family. When Anton Gendarme, the new schoolteacher, comes to town, sparks fly between Deborah and Anton. The sudden competition makes Toby do some serious soul-searching, but is it too late? As the town of Blessing prepares for harvest, Deborah faces the most important decision of her life. But where does her heart truly belong?”

This novel is the final book in the Song of Blessing series. When I first started reading it I was a bit hesitant for a few reasons. But before I state one of those reasons let me just say that I absolutely love Lauraine’s novels! She is one of my all time favorite authors and not too long ago (about a year or two) I had the pleasure to not only meet her but also have a brief interview with her!! Continue reading

A Beauty Refined by Tracie Peterson

A Beauty Refined“Phoebe Van Bergen, the daughter of a German count, is excited to visit America for the first time while her father purchases sapphires in Helena, Montana. Little does she know, however, that her father’s intentions – both for her and the gemstones – are not what she thinks. Ian Harper, a lapidary working in Helena, finds the dignified young woman staying at the Broadwater Hotel more than a little intriguing. Yet the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that her family story is based on a lie – a lie she has no knowledge of. And Ian believes he knows the only path that will lead her to freedom. Meeting Ian has changed everything for Phoebe, and she begins to consider staying in America, regardless of her father’s plans. But she may not be prepared for the unexpected danger that results when her family’s deception begins to unravel.”

This novel, A Beauty Refined, is the second book in the series Sapphires Brides. I’ll be honest and say that I have not read the first novel but I greatly enjoyed reading this book. Continue reading

A Lady of High Regard by Tracie Peterson

A Lady of High Regard“Born into affluence, Mia Stanley is a winsome socialite with a knack for matchmaking. She’s also a writer for Godey’s Lady’s Book magazine, much to the dismay of her family – and their society friends. A proper young lady of her social standing isn’t meant to labor in such a way, but Mia has always had a way with words… When her writing draws her into the world of downtrodden seamen’s wives on Philadelphia’s docks, Mia uncovers an alarming scheme that puts her in harm’s way. But her heart ends up on the line as well… Has her determination to always make a match driven away the one man whose esteem she covets?”

A Lady of High Regard is the first novel in the Ladies of Liberty trilogy. Mia Stanley not only has a way with words but a way of talking to people. People trust her and feel comfortable telling her the truth about their life and what is really going on in their neighborhood. Once Mia realized the scandals and schemes that were occurring at the docks she had no other choice then to help those in need. Continue reading

A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks

A Walk To Remember“Every April, when the wind blows in from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he’d fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter’s life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood.”

Years ago, when I first discovered Nicholas Sparks, this was the first novel that  I read by him. It was actually purely coincidental. Continue reading

Love Finds A Home by Janette Oke

Love Finds A Home“Belinda Davis’s move to Boston had introduced her to a life she never could have imagined growing up in the West. But even the opportunities of wealth, literature, and travel left her feeling empty. Realizing her faith had been pushed into the background, she once again invites God to have first place in her life. But now she faces new life decisions that seem even more difficult than before. Torn between two contrasting ways of life, one full of fascinating opportunities in the East and one represented by the beloved farm home in which she was raised, she clings to the principles that are her parents’ legacy: faith, love, and family.”

Love Finds A Home is the eight and final novel in the Love Comes Softly series. Even though I knew that this book was the final one in this series I had a difficult time accepting it. After Belinda had realized that her faith had been pushed back she decides to reevaluate her life and make a few changes, ones that she realized shouldn’t have been altered in the first place. With Aunt Virgie making an unplanned trip to New York, Belinda decides that it would be a perfect time to go home and visit her loved ones. Continue reading

Love’s Unfolding Dream by Janette Oke

Love's Unfolding Dream“Belinda, Marty and Clark Davis’s ‘surprise child,’ has always had a tender and compassionate heart toward anything hurt or broken. Her brother, Doctor Luke, influences her toward nursing and a job as his assistant. But will she have the inner strength to face hurt and broken people whose bodies, minds, and emotions need mending? And what will happen when Belinda, Amy Jo, and Melissa all fall for the same fellow?”

Love’s Unfolding Dream is the sixth novel in the Love Comes Softly Series. This novel is as delightful and captivating as the previous five novels. It was really interesting to see how Clark and Marty’s life had unfolded and continued after the birth of their unexpected child. Even though both are now grandparents many times over, it’s hard to see them as such. I still see them the way I had visualized them from the first novel. Compared to the previous novel, where Luke decided to become a doctor, this book has a great deal more medical scenes and information. It is actually quite fascinating, yet I still would not go into the medical field myself. Continue reading

Love’s Abiding Joy by Janette Oke

Love's Abiding Joy“The coming of the railroad has bridged those frontier miles, making possible the long-awaited reunion between daughter Missie and her parents, Clark and Marty Davis. And the visit turns out to be everything they had expected, including the heartwarming introductions to two adorable grandsons. Then the joyful time is shattered…”

Love’s Abiding Joy is the fourth book in the Love Comes Softly series. In the previous novel we read about the long move that Missie and Willie made west and of their family expanding. By the time this novel begins a few years have passed and little Nathan isn’t the only child that Missie and Willie have. The railroad has also finally come to their town and made it possible for Clark and Marty to get the “if-only’s” they had been dreaming about for the past few years. The reunion between mother and daughter wasn’t just emotional for Marty and Missie, I even found myself tearing up while reading about their reunion. I can’t imagine not being able to see my family, or even hearing their voices, for years. Continue reading
